Can the new F150 handle landscaping jobs?
Right now I have a 93 F250 and it is good for landscaping because it has good power and has a large load capacity. I was wondering if the new F150's have good load capacities. We often carry over 2 yards of soild but I dont know exactly how much they weigh and we pull our big trailer. Could this new F150 handle such responsibilities? If it can I am really thinking about getting one.
Thanks Guys

What engine do you have with the 250 now? The diesel? If you are used to having the diesel, I'd say you'd be a bit disappointed in the V8's power. Other than that, the new F-150 would do a wonderful job. I used a F-150 for the same purposes back several years ago, so the new ones should be even stronger.

Sorry about the delay, been quite busy at work the past couple of days. An XLT reg cab 2wd with 5.4l, 35.7 gal tank, heavy duty payload okg, and trailer tow pkg being the only options would cost $27,015. Add $3,415 to make it a 4X4, $2,845 for a supercab 2wd, and $5,910 for supercab 4X4.

Thats a descent price. I went to the dealership and test drove a 4x4 Supercab is the 5.4 and I loved the car. The only downfal is that they don't recommend putting a snow plow on the truck which we really wanted to do. So we might have to go with an 99+ F250

You can get the snow plow prep package if you get the heavy payload package - it's an additional $95, though you have to spend the $1,200 on the 8,200 GVWR package.
According to Ford's site, the heavy payload package includes:
- LT245/70x17D BSW All-Season Tires
- High Capacity 17" 7-Lug Steel Wheels
- Heavy Duty Shock Absorbers, Frame and 72 Amp Battery
- Upgraded Springs, Radiator, and Auxiliary Transmission Oil Cooler
- 10.25" Gear Set with 4.10 Axle
- Optional 4.10 Limited Slip Axle
- Optional Snow Plow Prep (4x4 Only)
However, as others have said you *must* get an 8-foot bed to get the heavy payload package. The heavy payload package is an option on the regular-cab longbed, and is a mandatory option on the supercab longbed (they call it an option, but you can't get one without it).

Like LK said the snow plow prep pkg is an option, and available on XL and XLT's, and requires the heavy duty payload pkg and 4wd. The brochure says restrictions apply, see your dealer for more information.
Paul B: Not sure, but I would guess you probally could make your own hd pkg with aftermarket parts. No telling how much it would cost though.

yeah, I think the most expensive change necessary to modify a truck up to this strength would be the rear axle, a 4.10, it must be an entirely different axle. I don't think the "heavy duty frame" is much different, just a few extra cross members. It is interesting that the front suspension, except for the springs, is the same. The standard A-arms and steering must be really strong. I wonder how much different the ride quality is with the 8200 pkg?

I think it is a different axle, the hd pkg uses a 10.25" rear as was stated above and if i'm not mistaken I think the normal 04's use the 9.75". There was pics on one of these web sites showing the suspension parts and they looked a bit bigger than the 97-03 and competitions parts (I'll see if I can find it and post a link to it). Haven't heard about the ride quality yet, but with heavy duty shocks it would probally be a little stiffer.
