How do you....

think of the Big 3 trucks?

GM- the "work truck", big and very strong, wants to pull **** and get banged up and dirty... but will last and also a lot more well rounded.

Ford- The Off road truck, very big and strong, will rip up the trails, with no mods on a f-150... now lets talk FX4, we gotta goto the rockys!!

Dodge- The pretty truck, nice tires and rims, doesnt want to get dirty and hate to do work, i consider it a very big, nice looking car.

Any others- Either too expensive (europe) or i would never buy (asia).

Anyone else have opinions?

EDIt:

O BTW Chris, they dont have the reverse glow gauges with the tach... i need one with the tach, and i wish i could find those u got.

GM- The good all around truck

Ford- good truck, a little rough around the edges, not as refined

Dodge- always 5 years behind (except for the Cummins)

Cool, not too often I see a Bronco with the same paint job. The bottom half of yours is different though, is that factory or has it been painted? Anyways I will keep an eye out for the guages... too bad they still don't sell them

GM as a work truck?!?!?!?!?! Yeah right. More like the pretty truck.

Go to the North SLope, THE work truck of choice is Ford by miles. Some Chevies and a few Dodges.

I think of a work truck as something that you can beat on and work hard and not worry about it. Where workability is put higher than the ride comfort. No sold axel, no work.

I have a soft spot for Dodges, but they are kind of a cross between work and looking good.

For the new trucks-

Chebbies are pretty boy-city trucks in my book, at least the new ones. Everyone I know that has one has had some kind of problem with them. Interiors are junk.

Ford- the 150's are aimed at city folk too, but there is no mistaking a superduties purpose- 110% truck there.

Dodges are over rated all around (exc. hemi- havent driven one yet). I have driven a new one(v-6 5spd), and absolutly hated it. Ride was extremly rough, and I couldnt see the hood at all. Dodge V-8s always will get an A for power.

Old trucks
Chevies- 350 this, 350 that, a little boring, and what the heck is up with a twin a frame IFS? Not near as tough as twin I beams, and you dont see as many of these as you do fords

Ford- Genuine work horse. The smallest engine you could get was a 300 six (most of the time) which is one of the best engines out there, and if you needed displacement, go for an FE or big block, and you could get almost any configuration you wanted, high swapability, and look way cool jacked up on 35's, and there are tons of these still riding around. Super reliable. I've driven mine 10 miles with no oil at about 60 MPH. Built Ford Tough.

Dodge- again, 318s and 360s are cool, but I dont see near as many dodges on the road today.

Take it with a grain of salt, and remember that I am a wee bit biased.

I had a lot of rust on the doors, so i bondo'd them up and then painted them black so it was eaisier and i think would look better than the sand again (because of the rust)

I think all the new half tons are junk ,IFS stinks, crew cab half tons are for people who should own a truck most of them would have got a suv but the taxes and insurance prices are outragous. half tons are built for posers. I seen a newer chevy silverado 1500 2wd on the high way with a 31' camper and the back bumper on the chevy looked like it was going to start scraping

I don't anyone towing around this area with Chevies or Dodges. All Ford superduties.

I know that in Montana, Ford outsells chevy 4 to 1. I don't know about Dodge. If someone is towing and its not a ford, its probably an out of stater.

half tons are taking alot of flack, but lemme tell ya, my dad towed a 25' cabin cruiser with my 150 with a 302, carried bedloads of dirt and rock, hauled loads of chopped oak higher than the top of the 8' box, and it did fine, so i take exception to the fact that half tons are for posers...maybe everyone cant afford a 250 or better

In east Texas two out of three pickups towing trailers are Dodge Cummins. Out on I-20 it's more like five out of six. I haveb't driven one, but I drive a 97 powerstroke about 40,000 a year and quite a bit of bumper towing including an 863 Bobcat on tracks. It is a good old pickup but is an anoying pig off the start. It only starts to make any power when the turbo starts to spool up. We have a 2001 chev with a 6.0 with auto/tranny and I really like that engine and tranny but the rest of the pickup I don't like. We had a new V-10 S/D for about 3 1/2 months and 12,000 miles. It is gone now and everyone is happy about it.

i dont know about 150s being for posers, i wouldnt own something that aint a real truck and i know my truck aint the greatest one on the road but itll get work done. ive pulled my friends out of some rough places and pulled my demo car on a trailer all over and through some fields and it hasnt given me any trouble. im lookin for a late 70s-early 80s ford 1/2 ton though.

i think my floormats speak for themselves - "built ford tough"
