Remove Transmission Filter on 1998 Explorer

I am trying to figure out if I need to remove the catalyst converter to take the transmission pan out to change the filter. The catalyst converter appears to be in the way, but I am not sure if I have enough clearance to remove the transmission oil pan without take out the converter. Does anyone out there has any experience in changing the filter for a 99 Explorer with 4.0 SOHC engine.

Any helps will be appreciated.

Take the 2 bolts out of the rear of the crossover pipe/converter and loosen the 2 bolts at the front. Spray with penetrant first. The pipe will swing down and far enough over to remove the pan.
