no oil pressure! Help

I just in stalled my new mallory ignition box and distributor on my 460. I fired it up and it sound pretty decent but a little loud, that when i saw the oil pressure was still on 0. I pulled the dist. back out and compared it to the old one. everything (depth, gear, and where the oil pump drive fits in) was the same. I looked down in the motor and noticed the pump drive wasnt 100% centered but my mechanic friends seemed to think that was usual. The pressure was great before and the engine was just rebuilt so EVERYTHING is new. Please help me with and suggestions, things to check, or any off the wall ideas would be great.

Sounds like your distributor isn't engaging the oil pump drive shaft.

no oil pressure! Help

Swamp Donkey, when I freshened up my 460 I used a socket (1/4 inch drive, and 5/16 or 11/32 socket) on an extension and chucked that into a drill motor and turned the oil pump over at the normal rate. Probable about 750 Rpm.
It shot my oil pressure right up to 40 Lbs (I had a mechanical guage on for the test) and when I finally got the engine started, (almost two months later) the guage in the dash went right up to the "L" in 'Oil'.
Try that to verify your pump shaft isn't twisted off down at the pump.

Did you put the pump shaft in upside down? I caught myself before the pan went on in my case.
