Cummins in a Ford: I know im Sick

Hey everybody Im back again with another dimented conversion, why do what is already availible when you can be different. my 460 is getting old real old, a rebuild done correctly and the way i would want it would be in the 3000 dollar range. Now i can buy a complete rolled 33000 mile dodge 1996 Banks powered cummins 5 spd for pretty damn cheap from a friend. I can sell the 460, five speed, T-case BW not my 205 and all other mods and come out around 2400 the truck is about a thousand more and still sell some parts off the truck to pay the last bit. Now i don't want to hear about why im not doing the PS conversion, thats too easy please guys bear with me and let me know what you thoughts or experiences have been with this. I have researched it pretty heavily but thought that somebody may have seen some fabrication glitches that i might need to be aware of. Motor mount wise and K-member do measure up as long as i flip the driverside mount. Anybody interested write me ill keep you posted. By the way the Mass Air conversion kit is sold no negotiations, Mike has dib when she gets pulled out next month. Also any thouts on converting from Gas 6K tach to Diesel 4 K tach?

Thanks Dusty

Cummins in a Ford: I know im Sick

Just thought I would throw this in. This info is 100 percent true but some of you may not believe it.
The Cummings turbo diesel is actually made by ford. Did you really think that dodge could make such a good engine! Its true I have no idea why but I am correct.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 11-Nov-01 AT 02:59 PM (EST)]It can be done.

Ford uses the cummin's in the F-650 and F-750s.

Ok guys since your showing off i guess i better show off what im about to hack up LOL. Pastmaster i was wondering what motor you have in the tan truck? just curious, BTW does anyone know if i will need a fuel pressure regulator inline after my tank pumps for the diesel pump to function correctly? just a thought. The Green monster does have the Bronco 33 gallon rear tank in it now too.

It has a 302.

Sorry about that, saw a new feature and had to try it.

As far as the diesel swap, you may have to have use pumps out of a diesel. I've been told diesel pumps are at a lower psi.

If you put a diesel engine in place of a gas engine what are you going to do about emissions, wouldn’t this create a problem. I know if you put a gas engine in place of a diesel there would be no problem.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 11-Nov-01 AT 06:46 PM (EST)]Please don't take it personally pastmaster, i was just joshing you a little, i thought the big picture was cool. Gave me the idea to put my picture up too.

Do you know if the fuel pumps will fit into the gasoline tanks or if i will have to swap in the diesel tanks? As to the emissions If i get the oportunity ill swap cabs to a diesel cab and retitle since titles here do not include frames just the main cab. Otherwise as long as you declare diesel to the State of Montana they tax you accordingly and let it be. Thank you for the concern definately things i hadn't put enough thought into, Wouldn't have ever crossed my mind to look into using the diesel pumps. I spent all my time measuring and gathering info on the engine swap forgot about the fuel delivery.

Thanks
Dusty

Not sure,

Your best bet would be to find a junk/wrecked diesel truck.

I can't imagine that ford would have used different gas tanks and/or lines for diesel equipped trucks.

www.ford-diesel.com

You might ask your question there and look for some swaps.

Seems awfully funny that ford would build such a great engine, but then you would need a Cummins CPL # to obtain parts for it.

Cummins engines are not made or owned by either Ford or Dodge. At one time Ford owned a part of Cummins, but not anymore.

I sorry if my information was incorrect, but I am not sure if you are correct either, no disrespect. I am in an automotive mechanics course in moraine park tech college, my teacher informed us of the information about this subject. He used to work at a ford dealership for 15 years. I figured the in formation was correct, I’ll inform him what you said and I’ll get back to you. Ok

Dusty,

What is this a picture of.... It looks like an F150-F350 series truck... But I was unaware of this motor combination I thought the Cummings was in the F650 size trucks... You know SuperCrewzer's... If I brought one of those puppies home my wife would shoot me!

Mike

Same 1995 F-350...... Let me know I love to share!
