1996 5.8L EFI into a 1954 F100
Hello All,
I wanted to start documenting the rebuild of my first car, a 1954 F 100.
Got it around 1987 drove it throughout High School. The steering was horrible. No one else could keep it in a single lane going down the road but I mastered the 9 o'clock to 3 o'clock steering wheel shuffle to keep it going mostly straight. One day I gunned it out of a parking lot and cranked it hard to get into traffic. The steering locked and I nailed a parked car. That was the beginning of the end and the truck got parked. Fast forward 20 years and My Dad and brother trailered it down from Seattle to San Diego. A buddy of mine volunteered to help get her on the road. In went a Mustang 2 cross member and eventually a California Emission 5.8L 1996 F150 engine E4OD and stock rear end from a truck that was running just fine at the time. Well my buddy got busy another 10 years passed and the project officially had stalled. I finally brought the truck back home and bumped it to the front of the line of projects.
I sourced a Ron Francis wiring harness. This is mostly installed. It uses a Telovork panel. They call for a 1995 or older ECM so I recently sourced a F5TF Series ECM California Version from a F 150 1995.
I am wondering if I can or should delete any of the emission devices. I am open to any advice before I turn the Key otherwise I wlll keep you all posted and get some pictures up on the board.

Cool project. I can see the DPFE EGR setup there in the first pic, there is a differential pressure sensor that measures EGR gas flow via 2 small lines that connect to the EGR tube running between the control valve and the passenger side exhaust manifold. The EGR system used on the OBD1 motors is much simpler and less expensive, it's just a control valve with a position sensor and a straight pipe between the valve and exhaust. If you manage to remove that EGR system without breaking anything the tube itself is worth good money since it was used in '96 only and fits the 5.8 motor exclusively.

I've been studying up. Trying to figure out the vacuum and vapor recovery plumbing. I didn't pull the engine originally, I was leaving that up to my buddy. I'm playing catchup now. I found this diagram which I believe to be the most accurate for my year.. plucked it off another Ford boards. I'm gonna post it here mostly for my own reference.

Notably missing is a tab and tad solenoid. I was scratching my head because they weren't mounted and they weren't in the milk crate that held the original harness. No air pump either. It looks to be the most simplified emissions plumbing system for this engine type that I've come across. I'm gonna be lazy and ask a question about this picture ( taken off the net) there's a hose coming straight toward the camera coming off the throttle body towards the radiator... what is it and where does it go?

That hose connects to the coolant system and there is another hose at the bottom of the TB too. This circulates coolant through the TB which prevents icing of the blades in colder climates and also preheats the air charge. I don't think the location of that hose in the pic is correct, IIRC they should be tee-d in with the heater core lines directly below.
