how does the 2008 f250 A/T steering column transmission selector lock?

I have a 2008 f350 and plan on swapping a 12 valve into it. As for the steering column, when the start key is rotated forward it seems like it doesnt release the safety lever for the park position on the column slide. Im wondering if the brake pedal must be pushed in for the trans selector to be able to go into any other position. thanks, Ronjon

Yes, the brake pedal must be pushed. That's been a Federal Safety Standard since 1992.
