E4OD Transmission Time?

E4OD Transmission Time?
So I finally found a Dana 60 complete ( almost ) swap for my '97 F250 HD ( yay ), however, on my very same trip to pick up said swap my E4OD starts exhibiting unusual behavior. ( boo ). When the trans is cold it seems to run fine, but when it heats up it hangs on upshifts, holding the engine at high RPMs for a long time. It also seemed to begin slipping up moderate grades. And finally, when I got home, it wouldn't engage reverse. This happened to my wife a couple weeks ago so I replaced the trans range selector hoping that may have contributed to the problems.... It drove better but still having issues. No codes or OD light flashing though.
The truck has 154k, is stock and looks to have never had the trans out as far as I can tell. I'm in the middle of a home landscaping project and need use of the truck, at least for short trips, currently, so I'm hoping to baby this problem until I can finish. The trans shows signs of weeping around the pan, but maybe this is leakage from the pump...?
I'm beginning my research into aftermarket torque convertors and who might offer a well-built, upgraded reman trans for a reasonable price. I don't need to go crazy, but i bought this truck with future performance upgrades in mind so stock won't cut it. And I'm not sure I trust a local trans shop to have enough intimate knowledge of this trans to make it bulletproof just because they say so.
Any thoughts or experiences? I've looked online at ATK, Monster, and a couple other offerings, but $4k is a lot of dough. I live in Orange county, CA, so if perhaps you can recommend a local-ish shop, please do. Thanks!
Then I can think about rebuilding that Dana 60 and getting it installed!
