that dam transmission

I don't know much bout transmission so here we go. I got a 98 exp Eddie Bauer. 5.4. not sure if it's the e4od or 4r100. but my issue at hand is this problems intermittent. it'll drive fine then bam. I'll lose reverse. it's not like it's in n it won't roll. it's here there. but if I turn it off n back on again it will work again. also sometimes when driving down the road and it hits OD it'll shake the exp. and it shifts into OD really early. if I turn off OD it is garbage. slips jerks drags all the time. I can make it mess up. once I do that it'll lose reverse also. but turn off n on again it works fine.

Those are some serious symptoms. You'll be doing yourself a favor by going into a tranny shop for a diagnosis.

I think the forward clutch isn't releasing when it is supposed to release. That is almost always caused by a damaged clutch.

I could see that, but would do all the time. if I shut the whole deal down n start back up, everything's fine again.
