What's the issue

Iv got an 1988 Bronco that has a history of catching fire at one point in the dash. Not sure how or why but I know it did because I see the burned on sut inside the vehicle and water damage to the original radio I reckon from the fire department. There is smoke pouring out of my dash smelling like burning wires and it's thick white smoke, Iv been trying to crank it for about a week. I thought is was the silinoid but I got a new one and that's when the smoking began. Its has a push button to start, so when I push it
it will buzz loudly and start smoking and burning wire smell crowds the truck. The buzz sounds like it's behind my steering wheel, up in the middle of the dash.
Im scared a field mouse may have chewed some wires up in my dash. Does anyone have a clue ????
it doesn't try to crank just the buzzing
fuel pump is engageing and everything seems gravy till push the start button
just humming and smoke from behind my steering wheel.

I would disconnect the battery and start performing exploratory surgery. Headlight switches and their connecter are a common place to start.

Just going to have to start pulling the dash apart to locate the issue. If the truck has sat for a while, your mouse theory might have some merit.

Personally I would start trying to figure out why it has a push button for starting. I suspect it all starts (no pun intended) there.
