I've noticed that the new CK-4 oils are considerably cheaper than the CJ-4 oils were too. However, Ford recommends that you do not use that doesn't meet Ford spec WSS-M2C171-F1 - and that includes Delvac.

This link will let your search for oils that meet the Ford spec. My recommendation would be to not use CK-4 oil in your 7.3L unless Ford OKs it.

Isn't this more of a long term wear issue? Surely a change or two of the new stuff can't cause that much harm??

I'm not sure. I don't like making assumptions though.

Hmm. Don't know, but the gallon I am looking at says CJ-4, just like it has for the 2 or so years I have been using it.

Bomgaars does this a couple times a year, combining their sale price with the rebates. I might buy more if the composition has changed, or back to Rotella T.

I may have gotten old stock the 5-40 synthetic 5 gallon buckets are labeled CJ4 with no mention of CK4. On sale for 99 minus 10 percent discount minus 60 rebate is 30 a bucket ignoring tax.

Yes. I think it's $12.86/gal at mine (or somewhere thereabouts). I have my next oil change sitting in my garage (CJ-4). The last time I passed through there my WM has stocked the shelves with CK-4. I hope Ford decides that the Delvac is okay as my truck seems to be happiest running the Mobil dino.

I was chastised on another site for asking too many questions about the whole CJ-4, CK-4 thing. What I did do was to stock up on a bunch of Delo 400LE CJ-4sm in 15W-40. Our local Wal-Mart has their shelves stocked with nothing but CK-4 Delo. They did have some Delvac but I really didn't check on it to closely. I have enough Delo to last me almost two years and if that's not long enough to end the CK-4 questions then we are in trouble.

Cause, bringing up that debate, will go down the same Rabbit hole that the infamous Mercon/Mercon 5 goes down......somebody gets pissed and pulls out the Nuclear codes.

You got that right. I was accused of having OCD. I was just trying to get to the bottom of what we are suppose to do as long as Ford says do not use any oil with CK-4 rating. I solved it for me by knowing about the controversy and buying a bunch of CJ-4 while it was still available. I see around here that Wal-Mart and a lot of the Auto Parts stores all carry CK-4 oils now. I am willing to bet that about 95% of the people buying oil for their Ford or probably all other makes don't know about this.

I am glad the subject of CK-4 came up, I probably never would have noticed otherwise. I am a stickler for Mercon V because it works and Ford says use it. If Ford still says no to CK-4 in a few months, will find old stock or back to Rotella T.
Thanks to all for bringing this up.
Of course, I will have to check Wally World now! Would rather buy at 12 or so bucks then have to do rebates.
