New to me old truck!

Picked up this old 66' Ford F100 in a field as a project for my boys and I. Only thing I know so far from the VIN is that it was originally an inline six and now it's got some sort of V8 in it. I don't know what the motor is now. Here's a few pics, feel free to comment with any observations or tips and suggestions. I'm looking forward to working on this with my boys before they get too old and don't want to spend time with dad anymore and learning with them!

Well photobucket isn't cooperating with me at the moment dang it! I got one at least, photobucket is making my whole computer glitch out for some reason.

How many valve cover bolts per side does the engine have?

That I do not know sir. It's still in that field until I get my friend to get his trailer and take it to my father in laws garage. I'll get that info when I drove over there again for sure. That will tell you what the motor is, or just narrow it down?

Looks like it came from a 1967/71 car, as the canister on the fuel pump is pointing downward.

It could be either a: 352 or a 390, but it could also be a 428.

FE engines use the same perches as 240/300 I-6.

Engine code is the 4th digit of the VIN .. post what it is.

Thank you for the info!! So is there a definite way to tell for sure? Is that where the bolt count comes into play that you mentioned earlier?

It's an "A", which from what I've seen is the 240 I6.

A = 1966 240 1V I-6.

So did this truck really not have a fuel gauge?

ETA: Disregard, I was looking at google pics and see it should be around the edge of the speedo. I think mine is just blocked by some junk on the cover is all. Was just surprised to see only one gauge I guess in the dash.

Missing parts on an engine usually isn't a good sign. Only way to tell which FE you have is to measure the stroke. Good luck.

If it's you and your boys, you don't need any luck. It's all good.
