aftermarket wheels 08 F350

Mostly what I have found on the forum is people wanting larger wheels. I want smaller ones. My King Ranch came with 20 inch wheels. I think a tire with a larger sidewall will make a smoother ride. Since I need new tires I would like to take the opportunity to change the wheels. I have no idea where to start. I am reluctant to just walk into a tire shop ignorant and ask them to sell me what they have without having some idea of my options. The dealer quoted me in excess of $1K per wheel and they get my old wheels, so that's out. On line there are so many options, price range and offsets that I don't know what I need. My truck is a 08 4X4 Crew Cab PSD long bed srw King Ranch with off road. Any suggestions?

Would you prefer a factory wheel? It is pretty easy to come by factory take off 18's. There are lots of great tire size choices for the 18" rim too. Let me know what you want in the new wheel. Thanks

My mechanic told me the same thing so I went to my local dealer and asked about the possibility of getting some take offs (I asked the service writer and the parts counter guy) and they looked at me like I had a third eye, shrugged their shoulders and said they didn't know what I was talking about. The parts guy tried to sell me new wheels at between $800 - 1200 each plus my old wheels or core. So I stopped right there thinking maybe this was an urban myth or an insiders deal. But, sure, I would be willing to go with take offs. I can start calling more dealers in the area - would I talk to service, parts or sales? btw, what should I expect to pay for a take - off factory wheel? And also, I think the tire pressure sensor on this model has a strap around the wheel. Will it transfer? Do I need a smaller strap? Does the whole thing need to be replaced? They are almost more trouble than they're worth anyway.

That dealers sounds like mine.....they just seem to know nothing unless it is sold in their computer. I wonder if any of them even drive Ford Trucks?
Anyway, watch Craigslist. That is where you will find them and at the best deal. Ebay will have them too, but usually at a higher cost. I recently purchased some 18" 2008 lariat wheels w/tires that were fairly worn for $400. Had them powder coated for a different look on a stock wheel. Where are you located?

I am in MA on the north shore. I wasn't thinking about used wheels because the roads are so bad here that I'm not sure what i would end up with - but its not out of the relm of possibilities. i was thinking the whole take off idea was refitting a new vehical that had 18s with 20s for a customer and then selling the 18s. But how do they do that? I have tried but never successfully bought anything from EBAY so I gave up frustrated with it a long time ago. I have had decent success with Craigslist though.

I see stuff like this here all the time here:
https://salem.craigslist.org/wto/6002740478.html
Maybe you should have some shipped to you if they're hard to come by there?

Wow, I didn't see anything like that here. Figured out how to save the search for only what I need and set alerts. No hits this week so far.

Meanwhile, back to aftermarket new. Anyone have advice? Looks like I need to consider TPMS concerns and perhaps lug nuts since mine are currently covered and probably not meant to be seen.
