I had to replace my driver's side door due to terminal stage cancer. The replacement door I found locally isn't a 5 star one. I can live without the lock I guess, but it's the right time in the project to put it.

I don't have the 2 doors in the place right now so I ask the group: can I remove my lock mechanism, cut an appropriate hole in the replacement door and add a lock to it?

I did. Careful measures, careful cuts with body saw. Works great. I believe that Midfifty even has a template in their instructions section on line.

 

Thanks for the quick reply. I found that template on their site but it's for 53+ and mines a 52. It's good enough to know this has already been done. I'll keep moving in that direction.

 

On mine the lock section was cut out and grafted to the new door. This kept the stock retainer for the lock assembly.
