. . . or are you using 3.73?

I tow a 13K 5th wheel 180 miles maybe 5 times a year currently with a 3.73 in a 2011 F-250. Wondering if I could get by with the 3.55 on the '17 I ordered yesterday or if I should change it.

Just for your info: the 2017 F-350 dually can be ordered with a 3.55 axle or a 4.10 axle. The 3.55 dually is rated to tow 27,300lbs.

I ordered my 2017 dually with the 3.55. I've pulled an 18,000lb loaded equipment trailer and the truck handled it with no issue. Your 13k 5ver should be no problem.

The 3.73 gear ratio is only available with gas engines; the 3.55 is only available in diesel engines...regardless of which Super Duty model you pick.

I've towed my 20k 5ver with my lower powered 2012 and 3.55's. No issue whatsoever. I'm assuming my 17 will handle it even better with more power and the same gearset.

Thanks. I have thought the entire time I've had my '11 that it was a 3.73. Maybe it's been a 3.55 as the other poster in this thread notes it may not have even been availablle in 3.73.

Just a bit frustrated as I had ordered yesterday and then found my EXACT truck 80 miles away, except it had the 3.31 which I know I don't want. So I'll just have to wait.

I've pulled my flatbed several times loaded truck and trailer was 38,550 according to the scales and I went with the 3.55 gears. Primarily the other rear end would have delayed my order per sales team but I am completely happy I get 19mpg on highway empty not that it matters much

Why not? You're rated for the same 15,000 lbs tow weight with 3.31s, and your unloaded mileage would be better.

These engines make more horsepower than many semi trucks, and almost as much torque. My last Kenworth had 3.25:1 gears and did just fine with 80,000 lbs, and did it with 435 HP. Over the years I can't recall hearing of anyone disappointed towing with 3.31s with the 6.7L engine.

My '11 had 3.55s, and never got the unloaded mileage that those with 3.31s got.
