Looking at used Expy's

Hi guys, I am back looking at Fords again. I had to trade my f150 for a Yukon XL Denali for the extra seating for the family and that got totalled so I am back hunting for a family rig.

Should I be afraid of the 07+ Expeditions? Lookin @ an 08 limited EL atm.

I can do all reasonable service myself, pretty much anything that doesn't involve getting inside a transmission.

Is there anything other than cam phasers and two piece spark plugs that I should be worried about?

The cam phasers and timing components are the biggest concerns. If you can handle that, then you're golden imho. By 2008 the spark plug issue was resolved. Any vehicle manufactured after 10/9/07 has the 1-piece spark plug. One last thing to consider though: I would look at an '09+. The 6R80 transmission introduced in the '09 model is less trouble-prone than the 6R75.

We have an 08 and really like it. Have had it for a little over a year and no major problems so far. I changed the spark plugs a couple months ago, and yes, no worries on 08 and newer.

I am fairly worried about cam phasers. I know there is a lot of conflicting opinions out there. Not sure who and what to believe on how serious an issue it is, and how to tell if things are about to fail.

When the phasers went on my '10, there was no warning. One morning it sounded like a diesel. Ford did do the job without charge, and I never asked about it. It was out of warranty at the time.

We have a 2012 XLT model bought in March 2104. Bought at about 42k miles and has 93k now. Only thing we have done is struts and spring assembly on all 4 because the struts wore out, brakes and of course tires. My wife loves it and I like it too, just hate the fuel fillups. :P
