The 5 spd takes a hydraulic system. Easily installed with parts available.

You need to confirm if that 5spd has a mechanical speedometer in the tailhousing. If it is a later model version it won't have a spot for a cable like your truck still uses. After 1992, they went to electronic speedometer.

I got under and took that picture from the tranny, from my guess i would say mechanical is what it gots right now i couldnt find any Reservoir

Get a shot of the bellhousing area. If there is linkage then it is mechanical. It might have an external slave meaning it is hydraulic. I don't know when the exact year they quick putting mechanical linkage.

That is definitely a T-18 transmission with a hydraulic clutch setup. I had a C6 3-speed automatic trans in my truck and was looking for exactly the setup you have but ended up "Settling" with a ZF 5-speed. I enjoy having the extra gear but I prefer the stoutness of the cast iron 4-speed.

I want to want fix this one up to the original state it was but I'm going to go ahead and put a M50D R2, now I'm thinking about acquiring another exactly the same look but is a 91 automatic , I was planning on putting a 302/340hp with a ZF 5speed on it

That T-18 is a much stronger trans than the M5OD-R2

Im sure it is but I dislike it being a 4speed , Inmy opinion I just think a 5speed would work fine, I don't do nothing that is extreme weight pulling or anything , I just use it to drive to work in town and go get 2 hay bales for my love stock ,

Yeah, you're right, the M5OD should hold up just fine. Some guys can bang the heck out of gears on those at high RPM's, off-road hard, and still have the M5OD hold up just fine for hundreds of thousands of miles. However, there are many cases where those transmissions crap the bed after 70K miles under normal highway conditions. Personally, I'd rather have the piece of mind knowing that no matter what I choose to do with my truck, be it normal driving with occasional towing or if I beat on the transmission like it owed me money that it was going to take everything I threw at it and ask for seconds. To each their own and that is your prerogative. However, you'd be one of the few that choose to swap in an M5OD, most swap them out. If you want a 5-speed you should spend the extra dough and go with a ZF5.
I don't mean to sound like the typical guy on this site telling you what you should do because that is what I think is best. Do whatever works for your needs. I just brought up the ZF swap because the M5OD can be hit or miss.

It's only a 3 speed with a low gear.
4.9L (300 cid) is an OHV inline 6, not a V6.

1986 was the last year for 3 speed manual trannies in F150/250, the shift lever was on the column.

Your truck probably has the RTS TS-OD Top Shift 4 Speed Overdrive (1984/89).

I could aquire a M50D for $900 and a ZF 5 for $1800 but I think that's the route I'll go
