2003 Ford Explorer XLT conflicting torque specs
Hi All, first time to these forums. I have some conflicting information. I just bought a MasterPro Bearing/Seal - Wheel Bearing And Hub Assembly from O'Reilly's for my front end and it came with a torque spec for the bolts as 184 lb-ft. However, reading some other forums and internet searches say they are 83 lb-ft. Big difference. Also, my Chilton auto manual says the caliper housing bolts are 155 lb-ft, but other forums and internet searches say they are 83 lb-ft as well. I'm thinking the 83 lb-ft is for the original bolts. My Vehicle is a 2003 Ford Explorer XLT 4.6L V8. Thanks for any help.

According to the Ford 2003 Factory Service Manual, the bearing hub bolts are to be torqued to 83 lb-ft. The axle nut on the bearing end of the half shaft is to be torqued to 184 lb-ft. The bolts that hold the caliper to the caliper mounting bracket are to be torqued to 24 lb-ft and the bolts holding the caliper mounting bracket to the spindle are also to be torqued to 83 lb-ft.
