82 e350 clutch problem

I have an 82 e 350 300 6 with a 3 SPD standard with some miles on it. The clutch had been shifting fine, no slipping, no noise. I was driving it when I heard some kind of a noise, pop or clank or something. No smell of burning clutch. Afterwards no clutch. Adjusted it almost all the way out. Nothing. I know I'll have to pull it tomorrow to get it fixed. But I was wondering if anyone may have any clues to what happened.

When you say " no clutch", can you explain that a bit more? Is the clutch engaged or disengaged? Pressure or no pressure on the clutch peddle? if you were driving at the time, was it stuck in gear and still pulling down the road?

Update

It wasn't engaging. I pulled the transmission. The so called tension springs in the clutch had broken and one was dislodged and stuck under the disc. It did chew on the flywheel bolts just a little. I expect it would have been much worse had I not been close to home. A new clutch set it shall be.It was the original clutch and I suspect I exacerbated the problem using the gearbox to control speed when the master cylinder was going out. I am not disappointed with it just with the timing.Thankfull I made it home. I busted the radiator last time I had to tow it down my gravel road.It will give me a chance to do some repairs to the clutch pedal assembly. It has some wear on a few spots. I'm plan to build it up where it's worn with a welder and grind it back out. Thanks for the reply.

Sorry to hear about your clutch problems. You've got yourself a rare van there. You don't see many manual transmission equipped Econolines. The ones you do are usually E100 or E150's. I've seen one E250. I've never seen a E350 with a manual. I've heard of a E350 cube van, but never personally seen one. I want one so I'm having to do the conversion on mine.

You should post some pics of your van. We love pictures!

Good luck with your repairs. Hopefully it all goes smooth.

Is it the clutch pedal itself that is worn or the linkage parts. If it's the pedal itself and you pull it out. Make sure to check/replace the pivot bushings and check the shaft for wear.
