I was having issues with my oil pressure needle jumping around. After reading up on it, it sounded like replacing thre oil pressure gauge switch was the answer. I just did install the new one and the oil pressure needle is still jumping around! Do I need to wait for the engine cycle perhaps?

This could be something dealing with the electrical wires hooking up to it maybe, but I am wondering if this is a sign that my oil pump is on it's last leg? It seems to run just fine and has enough oil, recently got all the check engine codes to clear.

I have a '98 Ford Ranger xlt with a 3.0 L.

 

Does the oil pressure jump around all the time or juts intermittently? If intermittent is it always under the same conditions?
