Oil Pan Dilemma

Well we finally got the Mustang II Cross member, Disc brakes, and suspension installed, no major problems.
Next is trial fitting the 1968 Mustang 302 and FMX engine and transmission mounts.
I purchased the for Racing 302 rear sump oil pan, as previously suggested, but I now have another problem.

The 68 Mustang had the oil dipstick in the timing cover, the new oil pan comes with a dipstick, but it is for a hole in the block, along side of the oil pan.

Now what ???

You might get a better response in the small block section of FTE. Small Block V8 (221, 260, 289, 5.0/302, 5.8/351W) - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums

Can't quite tell from the photo, but it looks to be what is called a Fox pan. The Fox pan that came with my crate motor had a dip stick going into the pan as late model 302/351 engines do not have the provision for a dip stick up front. I ended up cutting the Fox pan dip stick area out of the pan and welding that section into a front sump oil pan. If your pan has adequate clearance to other components, I would go with it and move the dip stick where the deepest part of the pan is located.

A 1979 mustang had a pan with the dipstick going in the side. It was also used on the ltd.

I bought my Fox body pan kit from Don Woods and it looks different from yours. Mine had a place in the side of the pan for the dipstick and it had the longer main bolt for the pickup which was included.

Later!

Do you mean this oil pan ? and bolt ?
Its a one year wonder for 79 Mustangs & Vans, there were no 302 Mustangs from 1980 or 1981, and when the 302 returned in 1983, the dipstick entered into the block, not the oil pan.

302: Econoline is not the same oil pan as Mustang.

D9UZ-6675-A .. Oil Pan = 1979/80 E100/250 302.

You are right, the pan pictured D9BZ6675A does not fit the econoline , this pan fits the following:

FORD FAIRMONT 1978-1979
FORD LTD 1979
FORD MUSTANG 1979
MERCURY CAPRI 1979
MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS 1979
MERCURY MARQUIS 1979
MERCURY ZEPHYR 1978-1979

Any idea what dipstick would fit & be accurate ?

Block mount for dipstick tube? I put a 68 302 engine in an 81 LTD there was a boss on the engine block which I drilled out for the dipstick tube.

The pic in #8 above is a different story, you need the tube for that.

Here is the one I got for my conversion. Now while I am having it doen by a friend, he is way past this point in the conversion and has already returned the stock 351W pan to me.

https://fordracingpartsbydonwood.com...it-m-6675-a58/

They listed several different engine applications.

huh

This guy at Classic Trucks mag/Hotrod.com has an F1 and has written quite a few articles on his build
This is the drivetrain article
Installing An All-Ford Drivetrain in a Classic Truck - Hot Rod Network

Brakes
Selecting And Installing Brake System Components: Proper Plumbing Pointers - Hot Rod Network

There a few others like TCI's rear parabolic spring install and another on their clutch/brake pedal set up.... you'll have to google them
