Detroit Harvester PTO for 1951 F6
Does anyone know anything about the Detroit Harvester (on a brass tag) 6 bolt PTO installed on my 1951 F 6 truck transmission? I'm going to need an output shaft bushing and seal and a shifter shaft seal and it would be helpful to know specifications, dimensions or part numbers if anyone has already gone this route. The transmission is the regular non-synchronized four speed. My PTO has a rear facing output shaft used to drive a winch mounted behind the cab. I just discovered that it has begun leaking gear oil like crazy, presumably because the seal held long enough to let the bushing wear out--I guess it is a bushing since I haven't removed and disassembled it yet to see for sure. If I knew what parts to try to order, I'd wait until I had them to do the job. Thanks!

Detroit Harvester comes up for Model T PTOs:

They changed names to Dura in 1959 and are long out of the PTO business, probably around the time of the name change.
I find no parts on line, no reference to truck PTOs.
All of this is probably not news to you.
What is the 6 bolt pattern? A Chelsea PTO might work for you.
This is a picture of a trans from your era, followed by the Chelsea 6 bolt pattern picture.

I think your trans is a T8. Straight cut or "spur gears". You need a PTO for that trans. This outfit might be of help:

That seems to be my transmission. I hope stock "off the shelf" bushings and seals can be made to fit my PTO, since OEM parts are out of the question. Failing that, I'll probably try to find a salvage PTO from a known maker for which parts may still be available (Chelsea, Spicer, etc) that I can substitute. Plan C is a 6 bolt block-off plate and lose the use of my winch, but that's a last resort move!

If your PTO has bushings, replacements should not be hard to get. Bronze bushings ate available in a wide range of sizes, and if you cannot find an exact fit, either match the shaft and machine the OD to suit, of match the OD and machine the bore to suit.
Also, there are a wide range of seals available, all you need to know is the shaft diameter where the seal rides, diameter of the bore the seal mounts in, and width of the old seal. On the seal, if you get the dimensions I can look up some numbers in the National and SKF catalogs I have.
