I have a late 80's/early 90's ranger bench seat to use in my '51 and am looking for ideas on how to build a frame for the seat to attach to. Can anyone who has built a frame share some pictures?
When you say "frame" I am assuming that you mean mounting rails to which you can bolt your new "non-standard" seat. Here is an example of one of the trucks I did...I like using rectangular tubing because it is strong and easy to work with. On this truck I decided that I needed a 3 inch rise so I used 2x3 tubing and welded it in place. To be sure that it was placed correctly I welded in anchor nuts and mounted the seat to the rails first. Then I placed the seat in the truck and positioned it right where I wanted it before tacking the rails to the floor. You could weld tabs to the tubing and pickup the stock mounting holes but in this case the stock holes where damaged and unusable. Once the rails are in place the seat now bolts to the rails and not the floor so welding is not an issue when it comes to removing/reinstalling the seat. I have done more complex fabricating to accommodate non-standard seat but this example should give you a good start.
I like your diamond plate running board covers too. Did you make those?
Sorry for hijack Matt
The seats are out of an 05 escape, custom upholstered using an 07 Focus pattern. The diamond plate is not a cover. It's 1/8 inch aluminum diamond plate. I have the same in the bed.
No, I did not make them. I wish I could take credit as they are a very well done set of boards.
Thank you for your comments.
After searching a wrecking yard, I found a set od seat brackets, from an early 2000 Chrysler t&c van's drivers seat worked perfectly on the bench I used.
