No. The 2.8 and 2.9 are completely different animals. I believe anything at all interchanges between them. You're sure not the first person with such ideas though . Sorry!

2.8 and 2.9 intake

Hey thanks for the info. I put a 87' 2.9 into a 84' converting to the efi sucks. Gas tank, lines, pumps and all the wiring is a real pain in the neck to change. But i'm almost done.

Thanks

2.8 and 2.9 intake

well i had the ideqa a while back to got to the older carbed intake on an 86. yes from i can see sofar the intakes can be swapped but there is a range of probs if your tring to dowstep it. first off is a dist the will not require the eec. then theres a non eec carb search to do. after you work past that then you have fuel delivery problems. like having the pumps come on only when the key is on run. then if your going to hook up a vaccume advance you have the issue of routing vacume lines. i dont know if that would work with an auto or if it would even shift after words but im possitive it would with a five speed. this change over may be in the futer for myne if i can work out the spark issues or ge ahold of a new moter for it.

The intakes dont inter change. The heads are different, the intake ports are in different places, and the valve order is different. Which brings up problem 2, the heads will sit in place of each other on the block, but beacuse the valves are in different order, the cams are different. Now you could swap cams, except that the 2.8 is a direct gear driven cam (reverse rotation), and the 2.9 has a timing chain and gears. So, after all the long words, no, you can't easily put 2.9 EFI on a 2.8. But you caould do a CFI throttle body conversion from a 3.8 that bolts in place of the carb.

The 2.8 intake won't work, but consider the 2.6 intake!
I believe all that would have to be done is to redo four
of the mounting bolts. They aren't far off, about 1/4 to 1/2"

Cheers, Capridude
