'00 6.8L with weird issue
#31
Well, that's a no go. It's got power at both capacitors, so a jumper did nothing. It's also got power to both coil wires??? I forget the colors(is been a few days, and I've been sick), but when using a test light(running), grounded to the block, it lit from both wires, however, just for comparison, doing the same on the passenger side, with one of the wires, it ground the coil and caused a miss. Hope that makes sense. So, could the PCM have just crapped out? I don't get it. Any other suggestions before I have it towed and repaired.

The 12v power (Red) to the coils comes from the ignition switch in RUN or START, goes thru the coil and goes to the PCM on the other wire where it will get grounded/opened by the PCM logic at the right times. Having 12v on both leads of the coil connectors is correct. Each coil has a separate wire to the PCM. The 12v supply wire from the ignition switch is common to each bank of coils after it splits at the back of the engine so it seemed likely that would explain a single bank failure. The PCM grounding transistors are inside the PCM and not knowing the layout of the PCM components it is difficult to determine if the transistor layout is bank related.

There are, from what I can tell, at least 11 separate grounds going into the PCM - there could very well be two, one for each bank, that allow the PCM to ground the COPs completing the circuit.
You could also just have a bad PCM. Without a bit of electrical diagnosis with a meter, there's not much more we can do from here except guess.

That's kind of what I figured. Thanks everyone for the help. I'll post up once I get it looked at/repaired.

I was about 95% sure that it was the PCM. I ended up taking it to the shop, and that's what they determined. Replaced it, and now is got and intermittent no start issue. Sometimes it'll start, and run great, other times it just spins over, so it's still at the shop. Drove it around Monday with no issues, buts it's sitting right now, and won't start. It does run on all cylinders, though, when is running. Lol
