CJ-4 OIL getting harder to find....

I know we've beat this topic to death the last couple months, but its time for me to do an oil change, and was at Walmart. I had my normal 13Qts of Mobil1 Syn 5w40 in the cart, and then noticed it is CK-4, and remembering reading the thread about that here. Its getting harder and harder to find CJ-4 rated oil these days, while staying away from the CK-4.

I decided to change to Chevron Delo 400LE Syn 5w40 which is still CJ-4 because it was on the shelf. Between two different Walmart stores, I was able to pick up enough for 3 oil changes(10 gallons) which should get me another 20K miles or so. Has there been any updates to this CK-4 debacle that anyone is aware of?

I'm sure our engines wont blow up, but I also want to do the correct thing, and haven't seen any updates.

Subscribed to see if we have any oil updates...

This might help - it's an interactive oil search for approved oils. It's on Ford's website.

Is it me or is valvoline the only 5-40 brand that I know I'll be able to buy without having to special order it? I guess I wouldn't mind ordering my oil but dang, it's just another step toward eliminating my need for a brick and mortar store. I already feel like stores are dinosaurs nowadays.

Almost anything on that list could be mail ordered.

Just switch to Valvoline Premium Blue Extreme 5w40 and never think about this issue again. That's what I did.

I don't see that around my neck of the woods sitting on the shelves. I've looked at Walmart, Autozone, etc. Otherwise I would have chosen that.

I can't get it either. Special order is the only way for me to use a 5-40 synthetic now that it appears I shouldn't use T6.

NAPA carries the Vavoline Premium Blue Extreme in 5w40 full synthetic. They had it on sale the end of last year for 19/gal, currently like $30/gal.

On Saturday I picked up some Valvoline Premium Blue Extreme 5-40 at the Advanced Auto near my house. They had a ton of it left, almost an entire endcap dedicated to just that oil.

Rotella T6 5w40 CK-4 is NOT yet certified to run in a 6.7L. T5 15W40 is on the list.
