CB Radio Ideas

Not sure if anyone else has installed a CB Radio on the Expy/Navi, but if you have can you please post pics of where you mounted it? Im looking all over for a decent mounting location.

Im considering removing the ashtray since it never gets used and then just relocating the cigarette lighter for charging purposes.

Im also debating on the best place to put my firestik antenna, 3 ft.

Which model and year do you have? Are you familiar with/willing to customize the dashboard or trim? Or do you want to avoid that?

Hello Skauber. I have a 2004 navigator. I strongly prefer not to mount it on the dash, as in on top of it. I dont mind basically anywhere else so long as its not to difficult to mod up.

I was considering mounting it face up on the passenger side of the center console, but then I noticed the navigation dvd would be blocked. Not that I use it much.

Thanks in advance!

The ashtray and cigarette lighter is behind that panel below the climate control, right? I think I would personally try to mount it there, seems to be the place that gives the cleanest install if it's possible. Not sure how it looks behind there though

If I were doing it, I'd go with a remote mount so that the only thing showing is the hand set, and that can just be done with a mic clip or a non destructive bracket onto the driver side grab handle. There are also mounting brackets that slide in alongside existing trim panels - you pull the trim panel, attach the bracket behind the panel, then when you snap the panel back on you don't see any screws. This would also be for the handset from a remote installation.

I agree. I can probably fabricate some type of plate to hold the CB from falling back into the dash area. Antenna location is another problem as well. Thanks for your feedback.

Anyone else use a cb with pics of install?

I have a mic clip as well. If I would to hide it, then I could place it in the center console flip up. I did toy with that idea as well. If that were the case then I could just leave the mic in there as well. I just dont like the idea of flipping it up to turn on/off, change channel, etc. Not a huge deal because it wont get used that often, more for recreational use.

The Cobra 75WXST I sent the picture of has the on / off right on the handset so there wouldn't be any need for opening the console, all the controls are on the mic including channel up / down. You bury the box behind the dash and all you need is a mic clip mount.

OH man... that would be perfect. The only problem is I already have a CB Radio that was given to me. I invested in the antenna and coax so far. I was hoping to use the free one.

You took the words right out of my mouth. Back when I had my Ford Bronco II and had the same mounting dilemma, I installed a one-hander CB similar to the one you showed. It worked out quite well when I mounted the main unit under the front seat and attached the hand unit to the console.

That remote handpiece seems perfect for this. Hide the CB somewhere, and mount the mic somewhere convenient.

Just because the CB was free doesn't make it right, I'd invest the $89.
