Dave, great idea and exactly what I did. I was going to put threaded inserts like John did but, my set is metric.
I had to modify my shroud a bit more to clear my A/C clutch so I had it in and out many times today. Man is it nice to have it in two pieces! So easy to work on now.
No it's not a frequent maintenance issue. But more than once is too much when it comes to dealing with the shroud. I'm attempting to add A/C and there is a lot of test fitting, belt alignment and length issues as I'm fabbing my own mount.
Wanted to thank Scotty's 52 F3 for posting this - we were fighting with it last week as we near the end of the current restoration stage, and someone said "there has to be a better way". Well, turns out there was - and your post was very well documented.
