Mirror fell off...

So I got some Gorilla mirror adhesive. That didn't work. Then I bought something else that didn't work. Then I got some PermaTex rear view mirror adhesive. So far it works great!

1) use the supplied wipe to clean the windshield
2) plop a drop of adhesive onto the button
3) hold tight against windshield for 30 seconds

let it cure an hour

4) re-attach the mirror

Mounting button
Done!

That's the stuff!

I work for a local law enforcement agency our in-car camera is attached to the windshield with a rearview mirror button this is what I've found to hold them on. normally take a little bit of the glass with the button trying to remove it

To remove the button use a little heat and a pair of pliers. Be careful not to get the glass too hot, you can melt the laminate in the glass.

No problem removing the button - when I went to lunch today the mirror was laying on the seat again.

My mirror won't stay put...nothing on these to tighten, I don't think. Good source for a replacement?

Clean the glass with 0000 steel wool (it doesn't scratch it) and then wipe the glass and button with denatured alcohol of 90% or higher twice and let it dry. Had the same issue you had until an old mechanic told me to use this technique, still hanging in there 3 years later. Since then I have been using steel wool to clean all my auto glass, works great.

I went through the whole mirror falling off thing including scrubbing the glass with acetone and/or alcohol, buffing it with steel wool and using three different brands of adhesive. I finally got it to stick using IC-2000 rubber toughened cyanoacrylate.

It's lasted most of a year now but your mileage will vary.

If you have 2 good mirrors on the out side why do you need the 1 inside?

I had 1 fall off the inside and based on them never staying put I just left it off.
I was also pulling a trailer a lot so the one inside was useless.

I also learned to drive in a van with no windows so had to use the outside mirrors so I drive mostly with outside mirrors.
