I need to replace the inner CV boot on the front right CV axleshaft on my 2003 Escape 2.0L. The FSM says that every time you remove a CV shaft from the transmission, you should replace the spring clip at the transmission end of the shaft before reinstalling.

Where do I get the clip from? Is it a dealer-only part, or will any parts chain carry them?

 

I removed mine 3 or 4 times when doing alternators and never replaced the clip. I'm not saying you shouldn't, but I think every time is just a way to get a couple bucks from the customer. I would bet the dealership,doesn't do it either.
