Cost effective simple scanner for iOS
For truck in signature. Want to see if there is a slight misfire under load
I have an iPhone to use with it.
Don't want to bother with laptop.
Most threads addressing this appear to be the newer trucks and allows you to adjust or change some of the truck's settings. I don't need any of that.
Thanks

My comment to make is regarding how simple you want it to be.
Your actually playing with resetting data in program lines.
Without back ground and limits, you can get into trouble.
For example changing the transmission shift points.
Those settings are changed by changing Octal data numbers in program lines, one for upshifts and one for down shifts.
If for example you get them to close to being the same, the PCM can respond to very small changes in input loading.
This can result in transmission up/down shift hunting.
So it depends on how simple and if there are limits placed on how far you would be allowed make changes.
if it gets to far out of hand, a dealer reflash would be needed to get back to stock again.
Again this is comment without knowing more about your intent.
Good luck.

I use a Bluetooth adapter with Android and have Torque Pro app which is capable of doing what you are wanting.
I do not use Apple products but I have heard there are similar type apps available.
A friend that uses Apple products has found that ios requires the use of a wifi dongle instead of Bluetooth. He has one called icar, which is also compatible with my Android devices.

Unless you trying to catch a specific trouble, doing it full time has no value.
In mode 6, test 53 are the misfire count history for every cylinder if there are any.
You can look at them anytime with a normal Scanner.
If the Scanner has a trap feature and set up, it will freeze frame the offending cylinder when it happens.
Normally on fault free engine this is never a useful tool to use full time.
Only use when there is a genuine misfire issue that does not set code or CEL would you do this.
As plugs erode, engine RPM varies, load varies, temperatures vary, the engine will misfire now and then but never enough to set code or a CEL.
It's normal as they are not perfect machines.
Looking at the misfire counts from a point that one cylinder's counts tend to be higher or more than the average of the other 7 cylinders may be a possible clue to a minor fault.
Could be with a coil, a boot, a spark plug, moisture in the plug well or other and an exercise in just trying to solve the issue before it becomes a major misfire if your inclined to do that.
Good luck.
