How often do you change your 2 micron Efuel filters?

I'm approaching 10k miles since in installed the Barnone kit and wondering when i should figure on changing my 2 micron filter? Or both? I think the pre pump filter is 30 microns.

I've been doing mine every 12K but I bet they would go longer.

My 2012 VW diesel was 10k intervals from the factory. The last oil I had in this truck was rotella t6 and it was as clean as new until 3500 it started to darken slightly. I ran it to almost 6k. I run the giant Donaldson filter for this oil. I don't see why it couldn't go longer. There are plenty of additives, my engine is clean internally and I do all highway, very little towing, no idling, plug it in any night below 40 and run a winter grill below 60. If it blows up it blows up and it'll get a new engine and i wont do that again haha. Its got 298k on it now and I have a spare engine for it that'll be going to the machine shop when he finishes up with the kubota engine.

At 300k and 22 years old with a rusty oil pan, and needing a passenger side exhaust manifold eventually it just makes more sense to drop a whole 'new' engine in ready at once than spend more time replacing a manifold or pulling an engine to replace a pan.

I more or less want to see if there are any issues with performance after 10k on the oil.

What's your secret? I've had VW diesels starting in 1980 and three PSD's and all of them the oil turns black right away. I even run the FS2500 bypass system that suppose to remove soot. I also run the Donaldson filters. My motor has 116K on it and I run Schaefer's oil which gives me the best test results of any oil that I've tired in 12 years. When I said what's your secret, I'm serious. I'm not trying to be a dick or saying I doubt it, I'm just curious of how a diesel can possibly have clean looking oil?

I agree my experience was always the same with diesels. I made a thread about it before though and others had similar experiences.

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1453173-how-long-until-your-oil-is-dirty-after-an-oil-change.html

I've only changed the oil twice since I've had it (started driving it daily last August my by idit was totaled) and both oils lasted the same and stayed clean past 3k

The inside of the engine from what I can see is really clean, it was used all its life to haul boats to customers so maybe all highway miles kept the engine clean?

I'll also grab a picture of the oil that's in my truck now tomorrow it think it's around 600 miles and the first true ester oil I've put in it and it's still clean. That should be knocking anything loose that's in there. I don't let my truck idle at all really. Maybe that's the difference? And I keep oil temps above 190 with plugging in and a winter cover. Maybe I have better fuel here? I also live at sea level

I change mine when I change the oil. Once a year. It is a little excessive considering that currently my truck doesn't seem that many miles a year. But I want clean fuel headed to the injectors.

Napa 3528 2 micron same milage, same situation. What's strange is it only drained halfway through the rag before it completely plugged up the rag and wouldn't drain anymore. There also looked like there was some water in itYou can see how turbid the fuel was too. I think i should change this one at 10k or sooner and the pre-filter every other time.

Pretty interesting. FWIW, I tried to push my filters (same setup) to 15k once. The truck started bucking and dropping FP at about 8k miles. I thought I had other issues. Nope...turned out to be fuel filter related. So that being said, I push them no further than 10k. I think that episode was bad batch of fuel, but still.

Yeah I thought to ask this because I had heard some weird idling the other day and felt there was a loss in power under wot. I can't see the pressure gauge in the cab so I wasn't sure. I was only seeing 16psi boost too. After seeing how the 2 micron filter plugged the rag I'm pretty sure that was it. I haven't driven the truck anywhere since I just swapped filters

That's pretty clean oil Shawn. If you have ever been on FS-2500 Bypass Oil Filter System there is a sales pitch on clean oil. But like I said mine is always black so I called them up. He asked me if I had done the finger test, what? He said to wipe the dipstick oil thru your fingers and then wipe your fingers clean with a rag. If you fingers got clean, its working at taking out the soot and they were clean. I remembered my hands being stained, even after washing them, from changing oil on my VW diesels and my first PSD. I guess I'll always have black oil and low mpg PSD's. The other day I got 42mpg on my 06 Bug driving 80mph so I guess I can be happy about that! lol
