Diagnose smoke idle under load..

I bought a "rebuilt 302" motor a guy had gotten in a package deal (so unknown type rings). It runs the fitech efi. Well it smoked really bad during initial breakin (regular oil) after 500 miles or so still had a some smoke out of the exhaust but not as bad. It still smokes, seems worse if it idles for a while then rev it or at slow speeds then going up a really step hill. Is this excessive smoke when revving at idle and under a really heavy load?

could it be fuel additives (I put fuel stabilizer and cleaner when it sat during this winter)?

If there is oil in the exhaust tubing further down from the exhaust manifolds, that may cause the smoke. My old engine smoked terribly after a head gasket change and was due mainly to so much oil built up in the exhaust.

I would do a compression test and a leak down.

That may help isolate if the valve guide seals are leaking.

Pull the plugs for an old school reading.
What is the EFI system setup for? Does it have any kind of feedback like from an O2 sensor?

afr targets
Idle stays at 13.6-8 Decel can get rich and drop to 11.6-8
It will go to 14.1 just hard to get the picture.. As letting foot off the gas makes it drop to the richer end

Yeah looks like the motor was running rich and now it's not. Is there a procedure to calibrate your wideband O2? I had to do that sometimes with the one I had. Also note that with this carb like EFI system(throttlebody) you will never get all plugs to look perfect, the outer corners will be a little leaner and the inner 4 will be richer so just try to get the best overall balance over all cylinders.

All of them except 2-8 are all white.. 2-8 read rich at the base then go to white on the strap and grey on the porcelin.

Found this after my (HEI style distributor) moudule failed today.. New module is still having the same symptoms

The reluctor looks to be rubbing on the coil pickup.. The mechanical advance is seized (will not move without force)
How would this cause white/lean plugs?

I think it may have cross fired at one point today because I got a pretty violent backfire through the intake then through the exhaust letting off.
