California emissions Truck

I have a 2003 f250 6.8l. I live in Pa. More lenient emission regulations . I bought a truck that was a NY registered truck. Same emissions as Ca. I would like to open it up a bit. Can I put a high flow cat on it without the computer throwing codes?

Welcome to FTE.

Check the OEM ratings for your truck vs. the non-CA trucks. My guess is there is not much to be had through simple modifications. It could have been an ECU program that was the difference.

If your truck runs good, let it be. JMO.

2003 Ford Superduty Specifications - Ford-Trucks.com

This repeatedly references "50 states usage..."

Is there an emissions sticker on your engine or in the engine compartment? It will say 50 state or CA.

All I can find for now.

The sticker under the hood might also say "OBD-II compliant".

ALSO, a very easy way to tell without any doubt: Is there an O2 sensor AFTER the catalytic converter?
