Bed Pads-Do I really need them?

I am in the process of refinishing the bed wood and noticed that most of the rubber pads that sit between the cross sills and frame were missing. Since it looks like I will be spending more for shipping than the price of the replacement set of 6, do I really need these? Thanks. Steve

Not sure. I don't think you really have to have them but Ford must have put them there for a reason, squeeking, metal on metal wear, rust issues between frame and bed perhaps?

If you can obtain good thick rubber stock you can it your own and punch a hole in it for the bolt.

remember that the bed needs to line up with the running boards and some space at the frame is occupied by mount rubber do 55 RB bolt to the fenders

I made my own cut out of rubber sheet that I think was cut from an old conveyor belt. Amazing what can be found at the swap meets for a few dollars. I would not leave them out myself.

Flat belts like they used to drive old machinery with will work just fine. Yeah, as said, put something in there.

For squeaks and rattles particularly when the bed had no load. Both the belt and the mud flaps are good ideas . . . maybe an improvement over the original.

I used Trex blocks but I needed to build up the mounting area as I am using an F1 box on a shortened F1 frame.

I have used 3M squeegees, the black rubber blocks used by body shops to spread body filler.

Bed pads

The rubber that Home Depot and Lowe's sells - what is the use that it is sold for. In other words, what is its intended use - just so we can look for it in the store and find it easily.

Don't need it for the bed yet, but I have a couple of other places on my truck that I could use it for.

Thanks

Dan

They are used for vibration dampers>. I used the first one for a motor mount custom insulation and the other you can cut in smaller squares. I found them handy when you need something right away

Powermate 2.25 in. x 1 in. Vibration Isolator-094-0190RP - The Home Depot

Powermate 4 in. x 4 in. x 1/2 in. Vibration Isolator-094-0137RP - The Home Depot

Rubber isolators

Thanks pweng1 - just what I was looking for!!!

Roy, mud flaps will work Great too! Hard to cut but should be able to drill a hole easily enough - maybe cheaper as well.

Thanks

Dan
