Oil Pan gasket replacement

My truck is a 1989 f150 4x4 with the 351W. I am wondering if anyone has a step by step to replacing the oil pan gasket. Everyone seems to have a different way of doing this and I am wondering if anyone has experience with this and can point me in the right direction. I would really like to avoid jacking the engine up because I don't have access to a cherry picker. Is it possible to just crawl underneath there and do it?

I've never personally done one, but Ive heard it's a bit tricky. A lot of folks choose to lift the engine but I know of some people on this forum that have done it without doing so, hopefully they can chime in.
