F450 with 6.0 Power Stroke

A friend of mine says that these motors are problems. Would like to hear comments from the forum. Thinking of buying a low mile one.

I wouldn't buy one unless you have an incredible amount of time on your hands, the patience of Job, and are desperately in need of disposing of cash to hide it from the IRS

The 6.0 has gotten a bad reputation most of it is Unwarranted if their stock they would run just great between me and a few close friends of mine I know of 6 2003-2007 6.0 trucks all are stock (except my 2004 which I did EGR and head bolts on just because I was under the impression I had to do it) One of the trucks is still driving around today with 420,000Kms never been apart and is all stock it's a 250 ccsb and he towes a 12,000lbs mini excavator at least five times a week. I would say if you know the history of the truck and everything checks out I would not have a problem with it.

I have had 2 6oh's, still driving my second one. They are an incredible power plant. My first was a learning curve, cause I found out you can't just treat them like the other older diesels out there that do not have the emissions that were required for the 6oh when they came out.

Buy a live data scanner and check for codes, and look at the reading for the sensors. From there you can make an educated purchase.

As long as you keep up on the maintenance and are handy with wrenches then they are a wonderful diesel to own. The charging system, oil/fuel filter changes, and coolant flushes are important. They have a phenomenal 5 speed auto transmission.

Depending on the price, miles, and condition of the truck, they are quite a good deal out there.

This is what many people think because of people who don't know the in's and out's of them. Typical response. Jerry, this response from 82_F100_300six probably didn't help much with what your asking.

I have only spent $800 in total repairs since owning my second 6oh. And that was after owing it for 8 months. Since January of 2016 it has been flawless and is continuing that way. I purchased this one in April of 2015.

Good Luck!!!!

Jerry
Add in the cost of two new batteries right out of the gate, it is a powerstroke thing.

The diesel shop owner in town where I get my parts from is a died in the wool 6.0 lover..........but he swears that when he buys one he does the bullet proofing with the head studs etc. I don't know how he does it but he says he can do the studs w/o removing the cab. He also swears by Arcoil in the 7.3 and 6.0...not the 6.7. As an FYI, he won't even work on a 6.4 for any amount.

Come on over to the 6.0L Forum and have a look at the Tech Folder.
Lots of info on the care and feeding of a 6.0L PSD.

Or just use the link below my signature for the Tech Folder.

They can be awesome rewarding engines or break your heart.

As mentioned above, read about the care and feeding of the 6.0L PSD. Don't rely on the experience of " a friend of a friend" when deciding what to do.

It's not hard doing studs without pulling the cab. There is no reason to pull the cab on a 6 liter

Brain fart is all. I just had a look at some photos of the F450 ,F550 and F650.
The F650 is where the cab changes. I was thinking it was sooner than that.
