Aahh, that's right, I always forget about that hose. It's usually never a problem. I remember when it used to go to a can with metal mesh inside screwed on the valve cover. Now it goes to the air cleaner to get better filtered air.

When I bought the truck with 115k, I changed the PCV, but not the hose. I changed the hose about 140k (nnow has 195k). Pretty sure the TB has never been cleaned.

The front of the TB was alright, like I said, I almost didn't go further. But I shone a flashlight inside and saw it all. The PCV hose did have a split when I replaced it about 50k ago.

To the OP, I bet whatever oil was run in it originally was not something spec'd by Ford. Either some synthetic with a load of volatiles in it that boiled off and then deposited in the throttle body, or something else. Coupled with a bad PCV system.

My truck is at the dealership right now and has been for over a week. #6 coil was dropping out and caused a miss that I noticed while pulling my camper. My F250 Triton V10 2003 model truck only has 88k miles. I had the spark plugs changed while the coil was being replaced. I drove it 10 miles and it starting missing again so back to dealership I went. They are telling me now that it is dropping out on random coil numbers every time it is restarted and that they do not know what the trouble is. I have already paid $550 dollars and I am now afraid that my truck will never run right again. You would think that a FORD DEALERSHIP would know how to fix it but not this one. Anyone have any ideas.

2000 excursion
Hi all. Let me first say that this is my first post. Like a lot of others, I have been a reader of forums, but never joined one until today. I felt compelled to write a post about my experience that I hope may help someone else. I have a 2000 Excursion V10 with 195k miles. I started having a misfire about 6 months ago. First code was for #10, then it cleared on its own after a couple days. Then 2 months later, #8 threw a code, and then cleared out its own. Then a month ago, started getting multiple misfires. Started with 2 & 8 and ran poorly, shaking at idle and no power. So I figured it was time for new coils and plugs, since it had been 70k since they were changed (40k on new injectors). So I changed them and cleared the codes. No difference, but now the misfire is on 3, 6, & 8. So I did everything that everyone suggests, like checking the connections at the plugs, looking for worn or damaged wires, swapping plugs, swapping coil packs, and swapping injectors. Misfires never followed any pattern. Now I have 3, 6, 8, and bank 1 too lean. I cleaned the MAF, ohmed the TPS, and cleaned the IAC (what a tough location).still nothing. It's been several tanks of gas, Lucas fuel treatment, new fuel filter, checked fuel pressure, checked vacuum leaks, opened up steering column to check for rubbed wires, everything. So I am pulling my hair out because in this forum and several others, the only things left were major problems, like compression (head gasket, rings, etc), but I had decent pressure 138-150psi). Now the codes are 2, 5, & 9. So I decided to go back to basics. I started with the air supply. As I moved to the throttle body, I almost stopped. From the outside, It looked pretty good. But I pulled it off and was freaked out by what I saw. I can't post pictures, but it was terrible. A coating of black tar, 1/8" thick in some places. So after a half day of cleaning the TB and the spacer between the TB and intake, I put her back together. I decided to do the new Seafoam intake spray clean, as well (i did 2 cans). She is like a new truck, no codes (going on 159 miles now). I know that some of you will be compelled to disagree with me, to tell me that there is no way that a dirty TB could cause a misfire code, blah, blah. I know. Good intentioned people on forums said the same. Even a Ford mechanic I spoke to couldn't tell me where to go next. But maybe there's a guy out there that really needs to hear this because he needs his rig to get to work and support his family. This is for you. And maybe you can return the favor and share your experience on a forum, so I can benefit from it.

hey there i have a 2000 excursion im goin threw the exact same thing point of pulling out my hair it is my family's only rig I kinda understand what your saying this could help alot if you thinks its the same issue I replaced all the plugs cuz it said misfire on the 2 in very back both sides the 5th one back very difficult for me to do but I did it now its throwing codes for other coils may you be so kind to explain to me what to do now im not the world's best mccanic but not the worse ether thank you .
You may be better off starting a new thread and including information/history about your situation.
What are all the codes you are getting, how many miles, are the misfires at idle or under load, when were the plugs last changed, when were the COP boots last changed, if the misfires are at idle has the IAC been cleaned or replaced, has the MAF been cleaned, is there any indication of water or coolant around cylinders that are under the heater hoses, any indication of water dripping from above the engine when it rains or from washing with a garden hose, any vacuum hose cracks/leaks particularly the PCV hose behind the throttle body, has the fuel filter ever been changed, what is the fuel pressure at the test port on the fuel rail, are you getting good voltage on the COP RD/LG wires, any cracks/leaks/clogs in the air filter piping?
