Steering wheel horn & rear slider window questions

Which horn pads are compatible with the base steering wheel in the '81 F100 Custom?

How does one remove the back slider windows to replace them and which years are compatible with '81 F100 Custom?

TIA

All of the horn pads are compatible, but if you don't have cruise the cruise buttons obviously won't work if you buy one of those.

And, all of the 80-86 rear windows should work as the cabs didn't change. In fact, even the later ones will probably work, but I don't know that for sure.

I take that to mean the horn pads from the 80-86 range are all the same in that regard, correct?

The rear sliders, I came across a set that were in good shape in a later ('88 maybe?) but couldn't see how to remove them!

Is there an easy method like lift and pop them out or do I have to know a quick trick for that?

Yes, sorry.

On the slider, my understanding is you pull the rubber out. And, I think you pull it into the cab, but that could be wrong as that's the only way it seems reasonable to me or you could easily break into any truck.

Take a couple of stiff putty knives and take the whole window out and swap it.

That was how I was thinking - easy out on the windows = easy in to the truck. Well, it is a junk yard so I guess I have some latitude in the learning experience so to speak.

Dave - that's a thought other than I'm 200+ miles from with a 2 seat drop top. Too cold right now for that. I have taken a front bumper home with that car tho' it was warmer outside.

Any rear window up to 1996 ('97 for HD) will fit.

You want to remove the trim around the inside and work the gasket out of the cab.
Some lubricant can help

Keep in mind that factory sliders use a different gasket than single glass or the aftermarket sliders.

Horn pads with 2 spoke steering wheels without speed control are the same: 1980/86 F100/350, Bronco & Econoline. There are several different versions (black camera case or wood grain finish).

1973/96 F100/350; 1997 F250 H/D & F350 sliding back window interchanges. The glass is thinner on 1980/97's, the 1973/79 weatherstrip won't work on 1980/97.

I have a 1994 rear slider on my 1985 F150. It is a direct fit with no modifications needed.

The only difference is the 1994 - 1996(7) sliders have one-piece solid black gasket (I switched that out for the earlier gasket with the chrome lockstrip) and the 1994 - 1996(7) slider has a MUCH better window latch/handle. Unlike the earlier sliders that have a cheap plastic latch that will break if you pull on it or use it as a handle, the 1994 - 1996(7) slider has two metal pieces that click together to lock the window and and you *can* use it as handle.
