New guy here! I am looking at purchasing a used ARE camper shell (Z series) from a 2008 F250, crew cab, standard bed, w/ tailgate step to place on my 2014 F250 crew cab, standard bed w/tailgate step. Does anyone know if the 2008 camper shell will fit my 2014 truck properly? Thanks!

 

I think it will work. But, 2008's didn't have tailgate steps. I believe that option started in 2011, so the rear glass on the Topper will be different.

 

Same bed dimensions and same cab. It will fit. If for some reason the tailgate is different and lot of companies have lower pieces on the glass that are pop riveted on which are different depending on step vs no step in the tailgate.

 

Thanks all! The guy swears his truck is 2008 and has a step. From the new pics he just sent they look absolutely identical, step and all. I guess I'll make full payment contingent on it fitting. I'll let you know if it works.

 

They might have started with the step option in 2008, don't remember. The 2008 MY was when they did some cosmetic changes. (grill, headlights, tailgate, went to the 6.4l etc) Some guys did put new tailgates on old vehicles though, the tailgate dimensions stayed the same.

 

My 2008 has the step.

 

Update: Bought the 2008 ARE Z series camper shell for my 2014. It fit perfectly! For $400 vs $2200 for a new one I can honestly say it was worth every penny. A little history on the back side, I bought a brand new ARE V series of which I took delivery the week after Christmas. 2 weeks later I noticed in the sunlight that there was overspray and peeling paint, Yes, ARE sold me a brand new shell which had already been repainted! Two weeks later and much complaining all ARE wanted to do was repaint my repainted brand new camper shell. Finally I convinced the dealer to refund my money. So today I bought a used Z series ARE in excellent condition. Amazing it had no overspray, no globs, and no peeling paint like the new one did. What ever happened to taking pride in your product? There is no way I would have sold a customer the product that ARE originally sold me as new. No wonder so many companies are in trouble today. Poor quality and poor customer service. I guess I bought a used one when ARE actually took pride in their product.
