1960 F100 Dad & Daughter Project
Last week, out of the blue, a friend of mine dropped a 1960 F100 into my lap. That morning on the way to work my car blew it motor. I got a ride to work and then spent the next hour stressing out about what I was going to do come Tuesday. I went over to my buddies auto body shop to bs and smoke a cigarette filling him in on my new dilemma. It just so happened that a friend of his who passed left him the truck. He was going to use it as a parts truck as he already had 60 that he was restoring. Long story short, he gave me the truck.
I was a little hesitant at first. I really have never restored a vehicle. I'm not a automotive noob, just really could never afford buying a project and then coming up with more money to dump into it. It did not take me very long to warm up to the idea. After looking at pictures of what these trucks can look like fully restored; popping the hood and just loving the simplicity of everything. My last few cars it seemed like I was constantly fixing something and they were a PAIN in the butt to work on. 14 hours to change a water pump on a twin cam 2.4 gm motor(never ever buy a car with one!!!)
I have plenty of resources to get me started. The guy who gave me the truck is a good friend and he has been doing body and paint for 23 years. I work at a parts house so I get a killer discount on parts. Also, once I posted pics on Facebook, a friend I haven't really talked to in years happened to be fixing up a 59'! He has a seat for me!! I have already acquired parts in less than a week without even trying.
I plan on fixing this car up with my 8 year old daughter. That gives me 8 years to have it completed, but with all the resources and great friends I have to help me along the way I don't see it taking anywhere near that long.
I have plenty more to say but rather than make this a mile long post and turn away the people who have stuck with me in reading this so far I'm going to just post some pictures and continue with this at a later time. I found out some cool history of the truck, but that will be posted at a later date, hopefully with a whole bunch of progress!
223 with a pretty recent rebuild. Runs a smooth as a sewing machine.
Front clip is stashed away at local wrecking yard. Don't know what kind of shape it's in.
New seat already on the way.
Yeah, not sure about the 4 tail lights

A friend of mine who is doing a similar project has one for me. Going to possibly drive next weekend to go get it. Also just heard about a truck I may be able to salvage all the cab glass from which will be awesome.
I told my daughter about getting the seat and her face just lit up when I told her she could help put it in!

That is a nice looking truck, I love the idea of working with your 8YO daughter on it. I have a grand daughter that is 8 and would love to work with her on such a project. I am looking at a 1960 f100 that a classmate of mine got from his granpa. Have not seen it yet but sounds encouraging. Good luck and look forward to reading about your project.

Make sure you post pictures of yours if you get it.
