300 i6 install trouble

Hi all,

I've got a '76 F150 with a 300 i6 I just rebuilt and am trying to install. I have a new frame that used to have a 302 and an automatic. I was too quick to chop up and scrap my rusted/bent frame and didn't think to steal the brackets on the frame the motor mounts will sit in (motor perches?). It seems like the ones from the new frame will fit a 300 i6. Is this the case? If it is, does somebody know a measurement I can use to mount them in the right spot? (the frame has them set too far back for an i6 and there aren't any other existing holes in the frame to use.

I would mount the transmission first and just match the engine up, but my truck is a 3 spd and the donor frame had an auto. I am not sure if I have the cross member that the trans bolts to in the right spot. Any advice/info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I know on the 80-86 trucks the frame mounts are different as you found out as the v8 ones do sit too far back.
Because of that I don't think you can use the v8 ones with out a lot of work of cutting & welding and even then may not work.

In the 80-86 area we were getting measurements between the 3 motor sizes 300/small block v8/ big block v8 so may want to do a search over there to see if any information there will help you.

Other wise I would post a WTB for the right ones as someone may have done a 300 to SB/BB swap and have them in a corner.
If you can find out if 81 ones will work I have a set on my parts truck frame I am not going to use but I think your frame is wider than the 80-86 ones.

I appreciate the reply and the offer. From what I can tell I think my frame is wider. It looks like the 302 mounts are the right width, so I am going to try and hang the engine where it needs to be and see if they fit and if its feasible to move the mounts far enough forward to fit my engine.

I been thinking about this and I think you are right on the frame being wider.
Good luck on the fitment.

Thanks for the help. if anybody is interested, the 302 mounts are slightly narrower than the 300. My motor mounts were sitting on the upper half of the frame mounts only so I fabricated an extra 2-3 inches of frame mount using flat stock and angle iron. I had to move the frame mounts to the extreme front of the cross member they are bolted to and drill new holes but it seems to be solid and everything is aligned the way it should.
