Lightning 5.4 and non lightning 5.4
Are they the same trans bolt pattern? I'm wanting to swap out my 4.6 for a 5.0. the 5.0 is pretty much the same power as a lightning 5.4 and I know the 4.6 and 5.4 have the same bolt pattern but I was wondering seeing if because the lightning came with the 4r100 if the bolt pattern was different or not. I'm thinking I might use the 4r100 and mount it up to the 5.0.

Sorry what I'm trying g to say is the 4.6, 5.0, and the 5.4 have the same bolt pattern for the transmission. But I was wondering if the lightning is different because it uses the 4r100 or if it was the same as a standard 5.4 because I would like to use the 4r100 on the coyote 5.0 because they are a awesome strong transmission.

Whether the bolt pattern lines up or not aint gonna be the problem. Running the trans is gonna be the problem.
I'd hazard a guess whatever system they have that communicates with the trans in the new 5.0 and tells it what to do and when to do it, aint gonna be compatible with the 4R100.

He will probably need an aftermarket trans controller.

What’s the question?
Certainly, if your truck is sporting a Triton 5.4, it’s not factory issued. The f150 v8 options that year were the 5.0 and 5.8.
Otherwise, it’s not uncommon for someone not versed on their cubic inch to liter conversions to call a 351 a 5.4 when it actually is a 5.8 (or a 5.4 a 351 when it is actually a 330).
