2003 EB Expedition, window issues.

Hello everyone. First off, thank you for reading this.

I have a 2003 Eddie Bauer Expedition, with about 312,xxx miles on it.
Yesterday I was driving down the road, and I attempted to crack my window, when this loud electric crack came from my door, and my window stopped working. It then proceeded to slowly fall down into the door completely.

What am I looking at here? I am 100% clueless on cars, and most of the mechanics in my area will rip you off in a blink of an eye.

When you hit the window UP/DOWN switch does the motor still hum?
There may be a nylon piece on the end of the arm that connects to the window that broke.
You'll have to open up the door to see what's broken.
You can hold the window up with a block of wood screwed thru the door if you need the vehicle while getting parts.

No, the motor does not hum or do anything when I hit the switch.

I currently have it held up with two rubber wedges on either side of the glass.

Is it the driver's front window? Sounds like window regulator/motor failure. It's not too hard a job if you are average shade tree mechanic. Take the door panel off and there's a few bolts to remove to free the old regulator assembly. Best to work with a helper to help hold the glass while you swap out the regulator. I like the Dorman brand replacement regulators vs the stock Motorcraft replacement. The Dorman regulator has metal where the stock regulator had plastic, which broke and caused the failure in the first place.

yes, it is the driver front window. So you're saying I should be purchasing the regulator/motor together? I can replace tires, brakes and change my oil, that's about it. But I'm sure like most things in like, I could YouTube it?

usually it's the regulator that broke, the motor is usually fine. If the price difference between the one with motor is not that great compared to the bare one then get the complete unit. it's not bad replacing the whole unit since it's the whole mounting assembly and you can use a tape to hold the window glass.

I'm with R&T Babich on this one. It sounds like the regulator broke loose from the glass.
