we got about 8" of snow and 4"of ice here yesterday and it hardened last night real firm. Two weeks ago we were in the 70's. Crazy winter.

Contest update:

The first March guesses are beginning to get eliminated. To those guys...thanks for your optimism I was hoping you'd be right.
But we have had below normal temperatures here lately. More snow predicted for this coming Monday.
Here is how it looks out there this morning....
Will give another update in early April.

We have gotten snow as late as May 5th more or less. Doesn't happen too often though.

There will be a winner.........the latest guess is June 15th. That would be the beginning of an ice age and I'll pack up my stuff and move to Texas if it is that late.

I know it's April 1st but this isn't funny.....
We have 9" of snow that fell overnight and it's still coming down. Could be a foot deep by the time this storm is over. The steep snowbanks next to the driveway will make it too narrow to work out there for awhile, and it will be wet for a month.

I was really hoping all this snow would be gone by now so I can start working outside on the truck frame.

You guys that guessed mid-April must be excited.

Well, that was my guess too. I wish that the snow was gone so you could work on your truck too.

Late April would be better for my guess but not so good for yu working on the truck.
Maybe you should post a list of dates so we can see who is still in the running for that sweet honey!!

I guessed mid April but I'm not too excited because I'm not convinced that all that snow is going to melt in the next 2 1/2 weeks. I love to visit Maine in the summer but I don't think I could live there year round. Once April comes around I'm ready for some warm weather.

Dan, once we get a few 50-degree days with sun it will get knocked down fast.
And if we get some rain, ever faster.

The sun is getting higher in the sky every day. This snow will melt...although we will probably break a record today for this date in history. I bet there is 12" that has fallen so far in this storm and it still has several hours left to go.

If I were to estimate when it might be clear around the truck - your guess could be right on target.
I could be very wrong though. I'm beginning to hear about another snowstorm next week.

In CT we just got some sleet and freezing rain out of this storm. If I were running the contest it would be just about over. Here's what we have left. I think I can pull the driveway stakes tomorrow.

Almost there

Well things are starting to happen. We got a lot of rain last week and that has saturated the snow. The next few days will be well above normal temps and sunny with some wind so I'll bet that will knock it down quite a bit. I placed the distance markers in the snow (see post #1 of this thread) at 8.5 feet away. That was half the current body length of 17 feet. Once the snow is completely gone in that radius - that's all she wrote.
Here are a couple pictures showing the melt zone for your reference.
Will continue to keep you all posted.

While it thoughtful to post updates, you really are just raising false hope for those with April guesstimates. You've lived in Maine long enough Tom to remember just how many snow free pre-May lawns you have experienced. What, three maybe four?

I'll shoot you a PM so you can box up my trophy for winning with a May 1 date. You know, just to save time.

Ha ha ha ...

I can HEAR the snow melting out there. On a warm sunny day like today, it makes a snap, crackle, pop noise.
Supposed to be near 70 degrees by Tuesday. I'll need earplugs.
You'll need a polar vortex coming down from Canada to make it to May 1 the way things are looking this week.
Two years ago you would have been right on. Last year it was gone by March 20th. This year...who knows? But I need some of that sun. Been a long winter.
