Replacing windshield

I made the first step today. I had a body shop give me a price. My current glass has hidden rust behind it, and it is infecting the glass on both sides, and its getting pretty bad.
After a long search it turns out there is 1 in the entire state of Florida.
Its on the way and my date is Feb 28th.
$1175 ouch. I don't think the van's blue book is that high. but it bugs me.

That seems really high for a windshield.

I recently had mine replaced by a cheap place for about $150. I wish I had known about the gasket requirement, as they tried to re-use the old one, and did not do a good job there. It turned out the new gasket has to be installed with the glass. Make sure that your very high quote includes that, or you'll be hearing a lot of wind noise at highway speeds.

I'll post some before and after pics. My van deserves it.

I paid roughly that 2 years ago, and they came to my place to install.

Had one installed for $200 couple years ago. I made several attempts at Pull A Part before, to cut one out, got partway through and crack!

Well I drop it off today. It looks like I will have the most expensive windshield on here, but things always seem to cost me more. Should be 2-3 days. I hope I get it back by the weekend. I want to go fishing this weekend.

Got it back, its great. They had progress pics of the repairs, the rust was not too bad considering the poor van has been outside its entire life. the first pic is of the old one with the cancer.

Looks Good! Have to take mine in for a new windshield as well. Rock chip going down the freeway cracked it pretty good.....

VERY nice! I have a question though. How long does anyone think they will still have Aerostar windshields available? One of these days I might need to replace one.
The things I worry about! LOL! don-ohio (:^)

When they ordered it he said there was 1 in the state of Florida only. It took a few days just to get it here. So who knows, I would imagine in a few more years we could be screwed.
