8BA V8 air cleaner

Despite several attempts at repositioning the air cleaner clamp, I can't get the air cleaner to tighten up, it's got a little wiggle in it? Maybe I have an air cleaner from a later V8 that's had a larger air horn on the carb?

I have one from a 50 F1 V8 that may work for you. Send me a PM so we can discuss sale price and shipping from Tucson, AZ.

Is it the clamp or the bell on the filter? If it's just the clamp I think it was Abe that mentioned in another thread that he had an extra clamp in his stash.

Are you using the original type air cleaner? If so; Are you sure you have the right carburetor top? There are two kinds.

The carbs in the first picture have a straight horn. The original air cleaner won't reliably clamp onto them.

The carb top in the second picture has the tapered horn. The original air cleaner is made to fit tightly onto it.

The third picture is a closer look at one of the straight type.

It's the right clamp and carb flange. I must have tweaked the clamp when I took it off to paint it.

That is correct.

Also shouldn't the truck carb, the one with the bevel, have a gasket of some sort? The carb on my 54 does.

Abe, that was it. I went down to check and Mike included one in his carb kit, that snugged it right up. Thank you sir!

Abe, more info please on the gasket you mentioned. I don't have one on my 54 and have never seen one in all these years. Can you post a photo?

I'm not sure what you mean by a little wiggly, but the air cleaner isn't the tight fit that you get with the bolt down the center of the air cleaner. Al the same time it should not vibrate when the engine is running. Make sure that your threads are clean on the screw clamp.

Spare parts I'm not using

So for now, I made a carb/air filter gasket out of an old bike inner tube. Wow on the fit! It's never been that nice.
