1949 ford f1 vs f47

Recently acquired a 1949 ford half ton. I believe it is the f1series but on the side panel in chrome it says f47 can anyone explain what that means? Also another question I have is on the back end of the truck are triangle pieces that look like they are welded on can anyone tell me if those are factory or not. Don't have a good pic yet but you can see them from the picture and most trucks I've looked at online don't have that piece on them. And also what is this truck worth as is in the condition it sits. First time on forums so any info would be appreciated! Also first truck I plan on fixing up.. acquired it from my great uncle who traded it for two pigs back in the day!

F-47 is the Canadian counterpart to the F-1. Show us some pics of the front of the truck and we can help you more. Welcome!

It is. I changed my reply. My fingers were typing F47 while my mind was thinking M47.

The F-47 is the Canadian 1/2 ton pickup with a GVW of 4700 lbs. The pictures show the 239 cu. in. Flathead with the Canadian air cleaner and long engine oil filter. All Canadian trucks were V-8 flathead engines.

The pieces by the tailgate were typically owner installed to hold or protect the tail lights.

Value depends on condition. From the pics, I see an abandoned project with a rusty cab floor, sheetmetal of unknown condition, and no sense of frame, engine, or title. Give us a bit more to go on and we can give estimates of worth.

From what I know about it, My great uncle had the motor rebuilt about 12 years ago had the interior redone and new wood on the back of the box said it was ready for paint and was driving it around with original tranny rear end motor (rebuilt) etc. and then he parked it outside for the last 12 years and thats what it looks like now the running boards and the rear fenders are on the back of the truck just not installed. I can post more pictures once I have some any more info would be great thanks!

I appreciate the responses! If you guys know anymore information about the truck, engine, tranny, value, etc, I'd be very interested in hearing about it??

Someone on here will have the answer to any question you can come up with. Well presented specific questions are appreciated. Rust is the major detriment to good value.
Pricing is subjective, based on condition.
And, welcome to the forum.

The triangular pieces by the tailgate were also to make the bed sides more rigid, especially when the tailgate is down, especially after use and abuse and rust has set in.

Are you looking for value estimates so you can buy or sell? Location also matters - so give us some idea, please.

Hi Kalon - $1000 is a good price to start a project. if that motor runs, and the transmission works you've got a great price. There's a bunch of us here with similar vehicles (some of them are the Mercury trucks, but lots of shared components) and the 239 flatheads. I'm looking forward to your progress.

I think the reason that only V8s were sold on the Canadian trucks is that the smaller population here meant that it made more sense to to standardize on one engine. I don't know that for for sure, but it would make sense. I'm sure others who have been at this longer than I can weigh in on that.
