Moon roof

Do you guys like it or do you feel it's a ticking time bomb for leaks?

I had one on my F150, then didn't have one on my 2014 F250. I didn't miss it. That said, I have it on my 2017 and I do like it. Not having it wouldn't be a deal breaker, but I've enjoyed it so far. I was worried about the leaks after hearing stories from some, but I've been through the wash 4 or 5 times now without issues and I never had issues on my F150. I think if it's going to leak, it's going to leak because it wasn't sealed/installed correctly, and that should show up from day 1 and not at a later time.

I have it on my truck and I think it is awesome. Look for leaks every time I drive it with no issues. It has been raining a lot in NoCal since I took delivery 3 weeks ago. Also have had it through the car wash once. No problems at all.

Just make sure the drain tube never gets plugged. Not sure how to do that yet on a 2017 though

yes almost every factory sunroof has a tube (for lack of a better word) that will drain any moisture away from the roof down and out of the vehicle. That is all I have learned about maintenance on a factory sunroof.

In my time growing up with a mechanic for a dad it seemed like 80% of the issue was drain tube related with any 2000+ moon roof. They seal well and are easily adjustable if they aren't sealing right. The drain tubes are a PITA if they start leaking. GM always used one tube in another tube design by the kick panels that was notorious for separating after hear/cool cycles. No clamp on it. I'm pretty sure they fixed that issue though around 2006+.

Here in the PNW, sunroofs are a pain, never seen one that didn't develop a leak eventually. The green stuff that grows on your truck in winter, the pollen and plain old dust works to plug the lines. I take a weed whacker line with a square cross section and insert it into the drain tube carefully working it all the way down. I then snip off the end and put it into a cordless drill and run it forward and reverse. Remove the line, flush with water. I then repeat the process once or twice more until the line runs freely.

IMO - a ticking time bomb and takes away too much interior head room and is too easily damaged (at a huge repair cost)

On my 2008 any leakage would send the water directly to the smart junction box shorting out the IC's in it. After paying for moon roof reseals and 4 junction boxes I called it quits.

Well the wife's Edge (she has had 4 of them) has always had a moon roof in it and it has never leaked, she also loves it.

I have had numerous vehicles with sunroofs. For me, at first i was thinking I didn't want one. Last F350 had one, almost 13 years and not one leak. Also, not once did I have to clean drain tubes. It's pretty cool, really, winter hear so mine has not been opened a lot yet, but it's nice even to open the sunshade and let in the moonlight. Worst case it stays closed.
