I were you, I'd complain to Ford. This is an official Ford accessory. The first dealer I approached had no problem and even had the rate spelled out in their system for the job. Ford's rate was better than the aftermarket installer quote I got.

 

I did contact Ford. They where of no help. They said to keep calling dealers until I found one that would do it. I don't have time to do that esp. considering there are 50+ dealers within 100 miles of my house. It was just simpler to go to the hitch shop. Yes, it was probably more expensive than if I had found a dealership to do it, but they also did the 7/12 pin plug install using parts from Nichols Manufaturing and Welding. We also got to spend half a day exploring a small mountain town similar to the town we want to retire too while the kit was being installed.

 

this is why I will not buy a new Ford until they change this. There is no reason you should't be able to order this on a 4x2 truck
